Assessing Unsold Tonnes and Post Harvest Pricing Strategies in 2024

18/1/2024
New Year New You 2024

We wish all of our members and subscribers a happy new year, and hope that you managed to spend some time with loved ones and found some time to reset your goals for the coming year. No new year resolutions here from us - our goal remains the same, to continue to support growers and WA grain marketers to: meet, match and trade grain online.

A return to looking at the books means a review of unsold tonnes, and our sources tell us that many growers are holding on to see if there any geopolitical or weather events that may impact post-harvest pricing.  Whilst storage charges for holding on to grain seem to be a long way into the future, it is important to use the data you have available to predict any Feb-March-April upside in grain. A large number of growers who held on to 22-23 Canola were rewarded with the $700 target price in early January, but more importantly, they did not lose any of their value to additional trading fees or charges.
